King Arthur’s Community School is embarking on the next stage of its improvement journey by becoming a sponsored academy as part of a multi-academy trust. The decision regarding which multi-academy trust the school should join rests with the Regional Schools Commissioner and the South West Headteacher’s Board.
It is the intention of the Regional School Commissioner that King Arthur’s Community School will work with and join the Sherborne Area Schools’ Trust (SAST) subject to due diligence work and final approvals. Currently SAST has seven schools serving North Dorset and South Somerset. We believe there is real strength in coming together with a collective responsibility for all of the children’s development and progress between 0-19 years. The Trust believes in preserving schools in their local community and providing considerable local expertise to support the new leadership at King Arthurs.
At the heart of SAST is the desire to work in partnership, to collaborate with others and to be outward facing for the benefit of children and staff. The schools have extensive links locally and beyond. One of the SAST schools, The Gryphon School has been designated as a National Teaching School and a National Support School. This means the school is recognised to provide expertise in teacher training, professional and leadership development as well as school improvement support.
As part of the transition towards the school joining Sherborne Area Schools’ Trust, the formal support from the Trust and the North Dorset Teaching School Alliance commenced on 9 July 2018. The legal and due diligence work for the school to convert to become an academy as part of SAST is underway and the target date for this to be finalised in Spring 2019.
