Closure of Schools – Update
4th January 2021
Dear Parents, Carers and Students,
I write following the Prime Minister’s announcement that all schools in England will close, shared earlier this evening.
As you will be aware, the situation with Covid19 is fast moving and following our work to set up and commence testing
today, we now find ourselves already sharing a totally different message. As always, we are determined to take a calm and sensible approach to this very complex picture.
In light of the announcement, I confirm that we will be open for the children of critical (key) workers and our vulnerable students. This means that our plan for education this week will remain unchanged. The students booked in under these two categories will be welcomed to attend school from 5th January. Those in Year 11 will receive live lessons and our Year 7 – 10 will have learning set through our Google Classrooms. Later in the week, we will clarify the ongoing programme of live lessons for all years, which will commence next week.
The wellbeing of our school community is paramount and as with the last lockdown, our pastoral team will work with families to ensure that they have regular contact and our support where needed.
We hope that there will be greater clarity over the next few days to confirm what will happen to ensure we can support our families who receive Free School Meals. Once this is confirmed, we will be in touch.
We will also share further information about the announcement of proposed alterations to the summer examinations for Year 11 this year and hope to have greater clarity about this in the coming days/weeks.
Finally, I can confirm that we will suspend the testing programme for all students who are not onsite until we know more about the return to school. I am sure that this will resume as a plan for the reopening of schools becomes clear, but until then, please do not attend site for any appointment you have received.
Whilst this was not the news I expected to share this evening, I know that we will all work together to ensure our whole school community can continue to learn from home until it is deemed safe to return to onsite provision.
As always, if you have any trouble accessing remote learning, please contact our IT help line via email at email@example.com for support. For any general queries or concerns, please email firstname.lastname@example.org for support. If you need to book your child in because you are a critical (key) worker, please email email@example.com and a member of our team will contact you as soon as possible.
I will write again, once there is any further information to share. For now, I wish you all well and please do stay safe and well.
